Anoscopy
What is an anoscopy?

Anoscopy is a screening that uses a small thin tube called an anoscope to carefully examine the anal canal for common growths, anal fissures, and hemorrhoids.
A procedure called (HRA) High Resolution Anoscopy that requires a magnifying instrument, called a high resolution colposcope, often accompanies a common anoscopy so as to aid in detecting abnormal cells. We also apply a special solution to highlight abnormal cells.
What can I expect during an anoscopy?
The examination takes approximately 15-20 minutes and does not require any preparation. Anoscopies are done in the office where biopsies can be taken if needed. Topical anesthetic is applied to minimize any pain and discomfort during this simple procedure.
