Colonoscopy Chicago, IL
What is a colonoscopy?
A colonoscopy is a screening test used to detect colon cancer or polyps (precancerous growths). During this procedure, your surgeon examines the entire large intestine (colon and rectum), with a colonoscope, a long, thin, flexible tube equipped with a small light and camera on its tip. In addition to screening for potential cancer, a colonoscopy aids in diagnosing and treating diseases that cause rectal bleeding, change in bowel habits, Crohn’s disease or ulcerative colitis.
When should I have a colonoscopy?
We recommend you get your first colonoscopy at age 50, because colon cancer usually develops in people older than this. However, if you have a close relative who has had colon cancer or if you are African American, please do not hesitate to make an appointment with us for a consultation. You may be more susceptible to this disease than the average person. We are committed to providing you with all the information you need to help you make informed decisions about your health. What can I expect during my colonoscopy?
Your comfort is very important to us, so we have anesthesia staff that provide safe and comfortable sedation for our patients. You will be asleep, so this procedure is pain-free. After your 30-45 minute colonoscopy, you will be in recovery for 30 minutes.
Colonoscopies are usually repeated every 10 years. Additional questions regarding colonoscopy preparation, instructions, expectations, risks, and benefits are addressed here.

I was thoroughly impressed with the staff members at Lotsu Digestive Health and Nutrition. I always found the front desk staff to be friendly and courteous. The individuals from Mobile Anesthesiologists, including nurses Kim and Brandi, and anesthesiologist, Dr. Reddy were wonderful. All three made sure I was comfortable and at ease as they prepared me for my procedure. They explained what they would be doing, what I should expect to experience, and made sure any questions I had were answered. Dr. Lotsu was kind and professional. He explained at our initial meeting and again prior to the procedure, what would be involved with my colonoscopy. I felt all the health care professionals I dealt with during my colonoscopy placed my best interests first! I highly recommend Lotsu Digestive Health and Nutrition.
