How to Prevent Constipation
Hydrate.
A common cause of constipation is dehydration. Make sure to drink at least half your body weight in ounces each day. Another trick is to warm the liquids you consume, especially in the morning. Water will work together with the fiber you consume to keep your body regular. Caffeine can be dehydrating, and milk and dairy products can cause constipation. So, if constipation is an issue for you, try cutting back on caffeine and dairy.
Alter you diet.
Plenty of fruits, vegetables, legumes, and whole-grain bread in your diet should help things move along, and prunes and bran cereal could be even more helpful. In the end, a well-balanced diet with plenty of fiber is your healthiest option.
Exercise regularly.
Regular exercise—30 minutes most days of the week—keeps the body in good shape and causes the muscles in your intestines to be more active.
